World Mental Health Awareness Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation For Mental Health, a global mental health organisation with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
According to the World Health Organisation’s mental health is a ‘state of well-being’ in which every individuals realises his or her own potential to cope with the normal stresses of life their ability to work productively and fruitfully and become part of a community.
You might ask how does this affect me?
Did you know that according to the Black Dog Institute Mental illness is common in 1 in 5 of Australians aged 16 to 85 years of age (20%) experience a mental illness in any year. The 3 most common mental illnesses are depression, anxiety and substance abuse. There are also many other mental health conditions.
